Partnering with Megan Walker, we bring the area's only exclusive girls AAU basketball program to Central Virginia.
MKW Elite is a travel basketball organization geared to take players from elementary through high school levels and propel them onto a college team.
We believe in character before talent, hard work instead of entitlement, and team before individuals.
Skills and fundamentals are the principles of every team practice. We believe in developing basketball players over scheming up opportunities for individuals, teaching versatility not positions, and understanding 'all in' team basketball. Learning to play the game and developing a high basketball IQ are the basics from which we put 8 players from the 2022 class into college basketball.
Players will have opportunities unlike any organization in the area, using the vast network that the 2017 National Player of the Year, Megan Walker, has gained throughout her career at Monacan High School, onto The University of Connecticut, and into her professional basketball career.
Grades 4 - 8 (elementary school and middle school teams)
The year’s activities generally run from September through June. Tryouts occur in September and October. Teams periodically have some open spots, so please reach out to us if you have an interest in joining after this period.
The teams practice twice each week. Practices occur on weeknights at the basketball gym on the St. Joseph’s Villa campus on Brook Road. Players are expected to be at practice, but we understand extenuating circumstances with prior notice. We also understand that some players may be multi-sport athletes.
There are periodic weekend tournaments during the November – February period (approximately one tournament per month). Tournaments are typically one-day tournaments within a two-hour drive of Richmond.
During the March – June period, tournaments are more frequent (approximately two tournaments per month). Tournaments are typically two-day tournaments within a two-hour drive of Richmond. The only exception to this is that the 8th grade team will also play in exposure tournaments as well.
Grades 9 – 11 (high school teams)
The year’s activities generally run from February through July. Tryouts occur in February and March, and the season begins after high school basketball ends. Teams periodically have some open spots, so please reach out to us if you have an interest in joining after this period.

Tournaments are typically two-day tournaments. Most tournaments are within a three-hour drive of Richmond, except for higher-profile exposure tournaments.
We play in a wide variety of tournaments throughout the Central Virginia area. Our tournament schedule is designed to play meaningful games against commonly skilled opponents as we learn how to play basketball as a team. Each team will play in some National tournaments with our high school-aged teams playing in a National Schedule gear to provide them with college exposure. Last year’s 11th-grade team alone placed nine players on college basketball teams.
Megan Walker played for Monacan High School, helping to lead her team to three Virginia Class 4A state championships. She was ranked the No. 1 recruit nationally in the class of 2017.
In her three seasons at UConn, Walker totaled 1,251 points and 559 rebounds and was named a 2020 All-American. Walker was drafted to the WNBA as a Junior in 2020 by the New York Liberty.
A lifelong resident of Hanover County. He is married with five kids, ages fourteen to twenty-nine. Coach Ford has coached youth basketball for the last fourteen years in various leagues, including AAU for the last ten years. He sits on a board of a basketball youth league, helping to oversee the girl’s division on a recreational level for the last 8 years. Eight years ago, he became the president of Havoc Girls Basketball which he helped grow into 188 girls across nineteen teams. The teams range from the 4th grade to the 11th-grade team.
Coach Ford's commitments lie in teamwork, motivation, and a blue-collar mentality, meaning teams win, not individuals. His philosophy is character over talent, work ethic over entitlement, and the team over individuals is the standard, not the goal, which each player must buy into. Coach Ford’s teams have won National Tournaments, such as the 2018 AYBT East Coast National Championship, as well as the Coaches Choice Inner Harbor Challenge among others. Last year alone, nine players from his oldest team went on to play college basketball.
